Americas 2021: Paperworks
January 21 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Northwest Arts Center opens the spring semester at Minot State with the “Americas 2021: Paperworks” annual juried exhibition. The exhibition is on view January 15 to February 26 in the Walter Piehl Gallery.
From the first call for entries in 1969, the Paperworks competition has brought diverse artwork “on or of paper, traditional and experimental,” to the University campus and greater Minot community. This year’s exhibition features 48 artworks by artists from the United States, Canada and Australia.
We are honored to have Aaron S. Coleman as the juror for the 50th anniversary of the annual Paperworks juried exhibition. Coleman, an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Arizona, works in multiple mediums. His “amalgamation of creative processes” explores cultural images and objects, both historical and contemporary, and the narrative that they tell of race/racism and class/classism in the United States. Coleman has shown internationally and received numerous awards, scholarships, and fellowships for his printmaking.
A limited public reception and online viewing is scheduled Thursday, January 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Both exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Please see the reception event or NAC website for more details. Masks and physical distancing are required.
The Walter Piehl Gallery is located in the Northwest Arts Center on the lower level of the Gordon B. Olson Library, with its own entrance on the south side of the library. It is open TWThF, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1-5 p.m. and by special arrangement. It is closed holidays.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
