The Northwest Arts Center presents ‘Book of Days: Reflections On Time and Water,’ by artist and painter Susana Amundaraín. On view from October 7 until December 16, her solo exhibition presents mixed media and acrylic paintings that have been revisited – brought back from the past and transformed through more work into the present.

Amundaraín, originally from Venezuela, currently lives and works in Minot, ND. She received her MFA from the University of Denver with an emphasis in painting and performance art. Her media includes acrylic and collage on canvas and paper, installations, scenic designs and text. Amundaraín builds her paintings through a multiple layering of color transparencies and eroded surfaces, in a balance between a structured space and a formless atmosphere.

Her work has been exhibited in museums in South America and the United States, is included in many private and corporate collections and has been reviewed in publications such as Art News, El Papel LIterario de El Nacional (Caracas), and The Journal of Art.

For more about Amundaraín and her work go to https://www.susanaamundarain.com/.

A public reception and online viewing is scheduled Thursday, October 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Both exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Please see the reception event or NAC website for more details. Masks are not required, but individuals who are not fully vaccinated or deemed vulnerable are encouraged to continue to wear masks.

Amundaraín will also be presenting in the Art Seminar series on Friday, October 8 at 12 noon in Aleshire Theatre, Hartnett Hall.

The Arts Center is open TWThF, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1-5 p.m. and by special arrangement. It is closed holidays. The Walter Piehl Gallery is located in the Northwest Arts Center on the lower level of the Gordon B. Olson Library, with its own entrance on the south side of the library.

This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
