From Here to Here

October 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The Taube Museum of Art will be exhibiting work by North Dakota natives Matthew Anderson and Michael Conlan for a show called From Here to Here. Anderson and Conlan’s collaboration will be on display at the Taube Museum of Art from September 1 through October 8.
Matthew Anderson is from the small rural town of Gackle, ND. He received his BA from
Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, and his MFA from the University of North Dakota,
Grand Forks. He has exhibited his works nationally and internationally and is a part of public
and private collections.
Anderson’s drawings are expressions of his wonderment for the North Dakota landscape. They
are based on actual places near his country home outside of Grand Forks. The rural landscape
provides the compositional structure for the images, yet the work is not bound to an exact
location. Anderson is focused on the conceptual language and interaction of subtle gestures,
mark-making, color shifts and texture, which evolves as the work develops. His practice is
intuitive and responsive to the immediate experience of making, as if playing visual music with
the landscape.
Michael Conlan, originally from Williston, ND, received his BFA from Portland State University,
Portland Oregon and his MFA at the University of North Dakota. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally and his work is included in both private and public collections. The artist recently returned home to North Dakota to raise his family and to have greater access to the landscape that inspires his work.
Conlan’s Lines is a new and ongoing body of work centered around abstracting the seemingly
arbitrary dividing of the landscape through formal investigations of line, color, form, and hierarchy. These formal investigations are preformed through a variety of media and methods from screen prints to oil on canvas and sculptural works. Conlan is carefully distilling the concept of the landscape motif to its essence as he balances between the boundaries of the abstract and the nonobjective.
There will be a reception for this exhibition on October 1 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Taube Museum of Art. Anderson and Conlan will be attending the reception in person and will be available to discuss their works. This event is free and open to the public with wine and hors-d’oeuvres being provided.
