Minot State University Art Seminar: Aaron S. Coleman

January 29 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Artist and Printmaker Aaron S. Coleman, Americas 2021: Paperworks Juror, will be presenting virtually to Art Seminar students at Minot State University’s Aleshire Theater at 12:00 pm on January 29.

Aaron S. Coleman’s studio practice comprises an amalgam of creative processes and historical research. Through printmaking, painting, collage, sculpture, and installation he creates works that address how mundane and seemingly anodyne artifacts embody the complex and pervasive history of race/racism and classical/classism in the United States. Employing a multi-media approach, Coleman reworks and re-contextualizes images and objects to foreground their interactions- both past and present- in this history. The objects are visually or physically juxtaposed with contrary or jarring images that release uncomfortable truths and suppressed stories which are both personal and political. Coleman is an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Arizona.

Arts Seminar presentations offer students and the public the opportunity to learn about the work, lives and experiences of guest artists visiting Minot State University. This event is free and open to the public. We invite you to attend! Masks and social distancing are required.

Aleshire Theater is located in Hartnett Hall on the Minot State University Campus. The presentation will also be streamed live on the Northwest Arts Center’s Facebook page.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
