Minot State University Art Seminar: Paul & Dakota Noot

November 19, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

North Dakota artists and father and son duo, Paul and Dakota Noot will be presenting in the Art Seminar series at Minot State University’s Aleshire Theater at 12:00 p.m. on November 19.

Paul Noot grew up near Valley City and Marion, North Dakota. He received his BFA from the University of North Dakota and earned his MFA from Brooklyn College in New York. His latest works touch on themes of the human spirit, wildlife and the North Dakota landscape. Paul says that his artwork is “always rooted in North Dakota with contemporary tendencies.” He’s participated in several regional exhibits and his work is included in public and private collections. Paul’s recent commissions include works at Pirogue Grille, Bismarck, a two-hundred-foot mural in Valley City, ND as well as a mural in Bismarck’s famous art alley. Paul currently lives in Bismarck, ND and is the head of the Visual Arts department at Bismarck High School.

Dakota Noot graduated with a BFA in Visual Arts from the University of North Dakota and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. Dakota, originally from Bismarck, ND, currently resides in Los Angeles, CA though his home state is a constant source of inspiration. Farm animals, pets, and insects are often Dakota’s subject matter. Each anthropomorphic character maintains a distinct personality and sense of humor. Dakota describes his work as playing “out like fantasy or science fiction stories, bringing North Dakota and its animals as main characters who won’t be sidelined.” Dakota continues to exhibit in North Dakota as well as California and is an Adjunct Professor at Oxnard College and Orange Coast College.
