World Fest: Okaidja Afroso Student Concert

October 13, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

Okaidja Afroso, an Afro-pop musician, will be the first Arts Midwest World Fest artist to be holding residence with us in Minot from October 9th – 15th, 2022 and will be providing an educational concert/workshop on Thursday, October 13th at 10:00 AM. All area K-12 students are invited and encouraged to attend. This is a FREE event.
The concert and workshop provide an opportunity to introduce students to the musical and dance artistry inspired by Okaidja’s origins in Ghana and an exploration of the culture of the African Diaspora.
Okaidja was born into a family of musicians and storytellers in the village of Kokrobite on the west coast of Ghana. He began his career as a dancer with the celebrated Ghana Dance Ensemble. As he toured internationally, Okaidja expanded his artistic reach becoming a master multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and arranger. Okaidja’s music tells the story of his people, infusing the Ghuanaian roots of the culture that he was raised in with an exploration of the African Diaspora, incorporating elements of North American folk and blues genres.
