Art Seminar: Dong Kyu Kim

Artist and fashion designer Dong Kyu Kim, Americas 2020: All Media Best of Show, will be presenting in the Art Seminar series at Minot State University’s Memorial Hall, Room 114 at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 2.

Originally from South Korea, Dong Kyu Kim’s work explores themes central to the concept of the American Dream and how individual lives are affected by transitions in global economic structures. His artworks are often constructed from paper receipts, tickets, immigration paperwork and other materials collected over the part fifteen years since relocating to the United States.

Kim has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States. He recently received a 2021 New Jersey Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. His work has received numerous awards from various institutions including the Florida State University Museum of Arts, Oklahoma State University, Minot State University and many others. Kim is currently the Design Director for LA based streetwear brand First Row.

Arts Seminar presentations offer students and the public the opportunity to learn about the work, lives and experiences of guest artists visiting Minot State University. Co-hosted by the Minot State University Art Department, this event is free and open to the public. We invite you to attend! Masks are not required, but individuals who are not fully vaccinated or deemed vulnerable are encouraged to continue to wear masks.

Memorial Hall is located on the Minot State University Campus. Seats in the theater will be physically distanced, and masks are required. The event will be live-streamed via Northwest Arts Center social media platforms.
